Obituary of Winifred Stenstrom Winifred I. “Winnie” Stenstrom, 83, of Falconer passed away in her home, Monday (April 16, 2018) after a courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side. A lifelong area resident she was born February 1, 1935 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Orval E. and Maxine Atwood Luce. In earlier years, she owned and operated Skyline Cabs and Stenstrom’s Grocery Store.
Prior to retirement, Winnie was the owner of the Falconer Dance Academy & Gymnastics Center teaching many dance and gymnastic students. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Jamestown and gathered genealogy for her family. Winnie was instrumental in starting the Falconer Girls Softball League and was an avid reader, bowler and loved doing crossword puzzles.
She loved attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren and was the “official” scorekeeper. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. Surviving are seven children: Noreen LeBaron (Rodney), Duane M. Stenstrom Jr., Susan Thompson (Ritchie), Georgia Ognibene (Samuel), Bonnie Gray (David), Barbara Schwab (James), Steven Stenstrom (Rebecka); 30 grandchildren: Kristine Jeppson, Jason LeBaron, Heather Cowan, Joshua LeBaron, Denise Lambert, Jesse LeBaron, Darin Thompson, Michael Thompson, James Thompson, Stephanie Walton, Jessica Hymas, Nicole Ognibene, Adrianna Ognibene, Tiffany Ognibene, Tabatha Stenstrom, James Schwab, Victoria Bihn, Krystina Schwab, Brian Gray, Amy Gray, Natasha Stenstrom, Malary Stenstrom, Alexis Diate, Kaylee Stenstrom, Daniel Stenstrom, Jourdon Stenstrom, Nathan Stenstrom, Amelia Stenstrom, Joaquin Martinez, Logan Martinez; 54 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren and a sister, Rosemarie Wilcox.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Duane M. Stenstrom Sr., whom she married September 22, 1951, who died July 23, 1996; two sons; Daniel Stenstrom, Warren Stenstrom III; one great granddaughter Carmen Hymas, two brothers; Irvin Luce and LaVerne Luce. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Monday in the church.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 851 Forest Ave. , Jamestown, NY. Bishop Kirk Young will officiate.
