Obituary of Richard Nelson Richard A. “Dick” Nelson, 87, of Bemus point passed away unexpectedly Thursday (June 7, 2018) in his home. He was born October 13, 1930 in Jamestown, NY the son of late Dewey and Clara Nelson Sr. Richard was a graduate of Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. He continued his education at Jamestown Community College in the criminal justice field.

Prior to his retirement in 1980 he was employed by the Jamestown Police Department for 20 years. He also drove the Carts bus for many years. Richard loved his family, being a police officer, bowling, gardening, riding motorcycles, watching television and especially nature shows and sudoku and playing spider solitaire.

He and Elsie did extensive traveling in 50 states and Europe. He was a member of the War Vets Recreation Club, American Legion # 1 (in Albany, NY), Lakewood Rod, Gun Club and The Fisherman’s club. He is survived by his wife Elsie (Wells) Nelson whom he married September 5, 1970 in Fluvanna Community Church; two sons: Bruce L. (Laurie) Nelson of Port Charlotte, FL; Brian A. (Cis) Nelson of Jonesborough, TN; two daughters: Debra K. Francis of Jamestown, Julie J. Cusimano of Glendale, AZ; a step son: David B. (Val) Heberle of Castroville, TX, two step daughters: Lori (Tim) Gustafson of Bemus Point, Julie (Bob) Woolston of North Tonawanda, NY.

; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter Sharyn A. Rizzo, two Brothers Dewey F. Nelson, Roger C. Nelson, a sister Bette J. Lord. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home.

Pastor Robert Benson of Christ Lutheran Church LCMC will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, NY. Friends will be received by the family from 5 p.m. to 8p.m. Tuesday in the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be donated to the Christ Lutheran Church LCMC 3012 RT 430 Bemus Point, NY 14712.
