Obituary for Albert “Sonny” F. Fonteneou Albert “Sonny” F. Fonteneou, a longtime area resident, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2018 with his family by his side at The Grand at River Valley, Poughkeepsie. He was 83 years old. Albert was born on September 29, 1934 in Patterson, New Jersey.

He was raised by his grandparents, the late Alphonso and Antoinette Dumoulin. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. On September 3, 1955 Sonny married the former Ada DiMattia.

Albert worked as a carpenter with Local 323 in Beacon. Sonny was a fifty year member of Lewis Tompkins Hose in Beacon. He was an avid hunter and fisher who enjoyed hunting in Roscoe, NY and fishing on Lake George.

Sonny had a fifth wheel camper that he loved to take his wife, daughters and grandchildren traveling and camping in. Sonny had season tickets to the Hudson Valley Renegades and brought his grandchildren to many games over the years. Sonny also enjoyed going to the Bagel Shoppe in Fishkill to see his friends.

In addition to his wife, Sonny is survived by his daughters, Shelley Pospiech and her companion, Carl Person and Denise Erns and her husband, Jeffrey; his grandchildren, Rachel Gecht and her husband, David, Daniel Erns, Lauren Pospiech, Kevin Erns and JJ Pospiech, Jr. and his fiancé, Karlee; his great grandchildren, Avery and Abbey Gecht; his brother, Joseph Fonteneou, Jr.; his sister, Barbara Villamon and her husband, Luis; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his grandparents, Sonny was predeceased by his father, Joseph Fonteneou, Sr. and his sister, Rene Fonteneou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 31 Willow Street, Beacon.

Memorial donations in memory of Albert may be made the Alzheimer’s Association, Hudson Valley Chapter, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, New York.
