Obituary for Barbara Cassel (Reed) Barbara R. Reed Cassel, 85, of Union Deposit passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hershey on February 1, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Chester E. and Geneva G. Nusser Reed. Barb was the office manager and book keeper of Cassel’s Auto Body Shop.

She attended Hershey High School. Barb was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hoernerstown. She was an avid snowmobile rider and racer, a member of Blue Ridge Snowmobile Club, and covered hundreds of miles on her snowmobile with the best of them in Dauphin and Potter counties.

Barb also loved tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a kind soul and devoted her life to her family. In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn L. Cassel, Sr.; and her sister, Carole Reitenbauch.

She is survived by a son, Glenn L. “Snorkey” Cassel, Jr. partner of Harry Boyer of Harrisburg; a daughter, Paulette A. “Polly” Cassel Summers wife of Dr. James A. Summers of Scottsdale, AZ; two sisters, Betty C. Cromwell of Hummelstown and Belva L. Howard of Palmyra; a brother, Chester E. “Sonny” Reed, Jr. of Vero Beach, FL; a grandson, Jason M. Cassel husband of Kimberly of Union Deposit; two great grandchildren, Donna Magnin wife of Thomas of Harrisburg and Michael Cassel of Union Deposit; three great great grandchildren, Natalia Cassel and Olivia Hyers both of Harrisburg, and Paris Cassel of Union Deposit; and her beloved dogs, Sparky and Peggy. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 11 AM in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 158 Hoernerstown Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Martha S. Boyd, her pastor, officiating.

Interment will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg. Friends will be received for a viewing in the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of the services. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 158 Hoernerstown Road, Hummelstown, PA 17036. Online condolences may be shared at www. trefzandbowser.com.
