She was 89. Mrs. Cowan was a nurse at Ben-Hur, Carmen Nursing Home and the hospital.

She was also a registered watchmaker. She liked reading, puzzles and embroidery. Born Feb.

13, 1929 in Yankton, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Joseph Povondra and Lottie Svatos Povondra. She attended school at Yankton. She was married to Donald Ward, who passed away June 3, 1956.

Surviving family includes: five children; daughter, Diane Newlin; son, Dennis (Kim) Cowan; daughter, Linda (Alton) Johnson; son, Brad (Karen) Cowan; daughter, Cindy (David) McMurry; two sisters, Colleen Lee and Ramona Woodard; eight grandchildren, Chris, Jamie, Stacie, Mindi, Tara, Kristie, Joey, Katie; six great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Madison, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Noah, Noelle; great-great-grandson, Bentley. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ray, sister, Marjorie and son-in-law, Dave Newlin. Services will be held at a later date in Spearfish, South Dakota with a burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
