Obituary for Burton Willard VanDyke Burton Willard VanDyke, age 80, of the Raven area of Buchanan County, VA, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 in a Richlands hospital after a battle with failing health. He was born in Buchanan County, VA and was the son of the late John Bert and Helen Keene VanDyke. Burton had attended Garden High School and was a coal miner operator.
He was co-owner of D & V Coal. When health permitted, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping with family and friends. Burton was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
He was of the Pentecostal faith and he felt the greatest accomplishment of his life is when he gave his heart to the Lord. He had lived most of his life in the Buchanan and Tazewell County areas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Eunice Jackson and Dora Ann Shelton; brother, Elmer W. VanDyke .
His life is celebrated by those who carry on his memory and spirit: His loving wife of 39 years, Margaret Jennelle VanDyke of Raven, VA Daughters: Teresa Helton and husband, Roger of Cedar Bluff, VA Neica Stiltner and husband, Mitchell of Cedar Bluff, VA Son, Dicky VanDyke and wife, Rhonda of Raven, VA Sisters: Vonda Davis and husband, Hassel of Shortt Gap, VA Phyllis Keen of Raven, VA Karen Monk and husband, Charlie of Raven, VA Eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive. The funeral service for Burton W. VanDyke will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Charlie McGlothlin and Rev.
Dale Keene officiating. Entombment will be conducted on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Roger Helton, Cody Helton, Mitchell Stiltner, Josh Street, Andrew Crawford, and A.J. Stiltner.
The family will begin receiving friends Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00pm at the funeral home until time of service at 7:00pm.
