Carl Henry “Sonny” Durst, 82, of Grantsville, MD, died Thursday, July 26, 2018, at his residence. Born July 31, 1935, in Jennings, MD, he was the son of the late Harry and Ethel (Platter) Durst. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley (Morrison) Durst; one son, Larry Durst; two brothers, Clark and Garland Durst; three sisters, Alice Beitzel, Beulah Glotfelty and Emogene Resh.

Sonny worked in roads construction and was a member of Calvary Tabernacle, Accident, MD. He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Spiker) Durst; five sons, Robert Durst, Carl Richard (Millie) Durst, Carl Lynn (Shelly) Durst and Brian (Lori) Durst, all of Grantsville; Gerald Lee (Ellie) Durst, Gray, TN; six daughters, Debbie Bittinger, Barbara Durst, Ethel (Randy) Wiley, Karen Durst and Susan Durst, all of Grantsville; Melissa (Jeff) Butler, Salisbury, PA; one sister, Wanda (Bobby) Yommer, Frostburg, MD; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Monday, July 30, 2018 from 12-2 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Pascal Crites officiating.

Cremation will follow services. Expressions of sympathy may be directed in care of the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.
