Charles “Charlie” Richard Burnside Jr., 64, of Jane Lew was called home at 6:14 a.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2018. He was born in Weston on September 8, 1953 a son of the late Charles Richard Burnside and Doris V. Lowther Burnside. Charlie has been reunited with his parents, many aunts and uncles, and a number of faithful Beagle companions.

He is survived by two daughters: Lisa Vaillancourt and husband, Shawn, and Kristin “Brooke” Barrett and husband, Charles Hardy, all of Jane Lew; two grandchildren who will greatly miss their “Bombee”: Timothy and Jeremiah Vaillancourt; one sister, Debora S. Garrett and husband, Edward, of Weston; one nephew, Edward Earl Garrett II of Weston; one aunt, Betty Rhoades of Camden; and one uncle, Charles T. Linthicum of Laytonsville, MD. After graduating in the 1971 class of Lewis County High School, Charlie attended Fairmont State College. Charlie was a member of the Jackson’s Mill Baptist Church where he spent many years being a Sunday School teacher for young adults.

He was proud of his service as Secretary of Berlin CEOS. He provided for his family by spending over 30 years of service in the WV Department of Highways. As a young man, it wasn’t unusual to find Charlie on the track drag racing his beloved Camaro.

He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed being a coach of Orioles Pee Wee Baseball and many other baseball and softball teams. He also enjoyed playing golf. He loved WVU and Alabama, so on game day you would hear him yell, “Roll Tide!

” Charlie never met a stranger and the first thing you would learn about him is that his world revolved around his daughters and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations to Appalachian Teen Challenge, 415 Benedum Drive Bridgeport, WV 26330, phone 304-933-3209 would be greatly appreciated. Charlie’s request for cremation has been honored.

Friends and family will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will follow from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel.
