Obituary for Deloris Elaine Higginbotham Deloris Elaine “Winky” Higginbotham, 81, of Hurricane, passed away at home on Friday June 8, 2018, after a long battle with cancer with her children by her side. She was born in Red House to the late Hester E. Rogers Chapman and Olen George Rummell. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Earl O. Higginbotham and two sisters, Janice Hill and Ann Moles.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Debra and Randy Meadows of St. Albans and David and Patricia Higginbotham of Hurricane; her grandchildren: Amber and Brian Dempsey of Lynchburg, VA, Sarah and Joey Cavender of Hurricane, Andrew Higginbotham and Kayla Johns of Elkview, Bryan and Shawn Higginbotham of Hurricane; five great grandchildren and a very special niece whom she loved like a daughter, Patricia Hill along with a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister, Jean Kuhn Arnold of Navarre, FL, and brothers, Leon Rummell of Denver CO, Melvin Rummell of NJ, Calvin Rummell of Blacksburg VA, William Rummell of Red House, and Bobby and Zelma (Phillips) Rummell of Sissonville and last but not least, her beloved furbaby, Odie von Winky. Deloris graduated from Poca High School and was the manager of the Hallmark Store in Liberty Square for more than thirty years working alongside a very special group of ladies whom she loved like sisters.
She was a devoted member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church and its choir for more than fifty years Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm Saturday June 16, 2018 at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Hurricane, with Dr. John D. Smith and Jared Shumate officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday at the church.
