He was 43. Born August 30, 1975 in Lafayette, he was the son of Larry Shaw and Delia Johnson. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School, class of 1993.

Derek was a kind and gentle person who loved animals and people. He took part in a mission trip to Africa. He liked to help at the animal shelter.

He was also a huge music lover, where he liked to play his guitar and enjoyed music of all kinds. He was previously employed at Subaru in Lafayette. Surviving family includes: mother and step-father, Delia and Gary Johnson of Crawfordsville; father, Larry Shaw of Bradenton, Florida; brother, Larry Shaw II; sister, Amanda Shaw; grandmother, Ruth Myers; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 2 at 4 PM at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Avenue, Crawfordsville. Public visitation will be from 3 to 4 on Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Derek’s love of animals with a donation to the Montgomery County Animal Welfare League, 1104 Big Four Arch Road, Crawfordsville, IN 47933. Online condolences may be made at www. BurkhartFH.com.
