Obituary for Douglas M. “Sonny” Cook Douglas M. “Sonny” Cook Plain Dealing, LA Funeral services for Mr. Douglas M. “Sonny” Cook, age 75, will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Oak Hill Baptist Church, Plain Dealing, LA, with Pastor Christopher Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Bailey Funeral Home – Plain Dealing.

Sonny was born on June 2, 1942 to L. H. and Oma Hammontree Cook in Minden, LA and was the youngest of eight siblings. Sonny passed away at his residence on Saturday, May 5, 2018 after a short illness. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, was employed by Century Telephone from 1965 to 1982, owned CandA Construction, SandS Auto Parts, Branding Iron Restaurant, and Cook’s Stables, and also worked for the Bossier Parish Police Juror District 4 from November 2011 to March 2018.

Sonny loved to rodeo with his friends, telling stories, working in his garden, riding 4-wheelers, and listening to his audio bible. Sonny had a strong work ethic and was always willing to get things done. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help someone out.

He also loved his dog Buddy. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Oma Jean Sparkman Cook ;five sons, James D. Cook of Plain Dealing, LA, Ronny Cook and wife Martha of Homer, LA, Johnny Cook and wife Teressa of Vivian, LA, Phillip Cook of Plain Dealing, LA, Mitchell Cook and wife Cheryl of Plain Dealing, LA; two brothers, JB Cook of Plain Dealing, LA, Curtis Cook of Bossier City, LA; two sisters, Dorothy Wipple of Benton, LA, Mary Lois Tripp of Springhill, LA; six grandsons, Jeremy Cook and wife Mary Lauren of Bossier City, LA, Jeffrey Cook of Bossier City, LA, Matt Otwell and wife Whitney of Vivian, LA, Dalton Cook and Sam Cook both of Sarepta, LA; Matt Cook and wife, Amanda of New Orleans, LA; eight granddaughters, Whitney Woodall and husband Zane of Delight, AR, Jessica Long and husband Keith of Benton, LA, Brittany Dickerson and husband Stephen of Minden, LA, Christina Elliott of Bossier City, LA, Ashley Cook of Benton, LA, Carlie Cook of Plain Dealing, LA, Callie Cook of Vivian, LA, Jaci Cook of Vivian, LA; two great-granddaughters, Harper Cook, Eden Woodall; two great-grandsons, Jax Cook, Isaac Long, and a host of nieces and nephews. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Floyd Cook, Robert Cook, and Delford Cook; and sister Nancy Autrey.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Cook, Jeffrey Cook, Matthew Cook, Matt Otwell, Dalton Cook and Samuel Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Wilkins, Richard Stanford, Billy White, Terry Richardson, Leavy Nugent and Ricky Ashworth. Sign our online guest book at www.
