Obituary for Kenneth Ray Killgore Services celebrating the life of Mr. Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Killgore, age 66 will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday May 3rd, 2018 at the Haynesville United Methodist Church with Reverend Joel Carter and Chaplain Andrew Abshire officiating. Interment will follow at the Tulip Cemetery, Athens LA under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Haynesville, LA. Visitation will be held from 5 pm-7pm Wednesday May 2nd, 2018 at the Haynesville United Methodist Church in Haynesville.

Kenny passed away April 30, 2018 surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Kenny was born October 30, 1951 in Homer, LA, to John Ray Killgore and Ethel Prince Killgore and was the oldest of 5 siblings. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Millard and Alice Killgore of Lisbon, LA and maternally by Perry O. (Pez) and Suzie Prince of Homer, LA, and his father John Ray Killgore of Haynesville.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Vicki McClanahan Killgore of Haynesville, daughter Jessica Alvendia of New Orleans, LA, son-in-law Roderick (Rico) Alvendia and grandson Noah Alvendia of New Orleans, LA, son Ross Killgore and wife Kassi and grandson Briggs Killgore of Haynesville and granddaughter Emma Salomon of Monroe, LA. Survivors also include his mother, Ethel Prince Killgore of Haynesville, brothers John Killgore and wife Shelly of Gallup, NM, Keith Killgore and wife Beverlee of Haynesville, and Rand Killgore and wife Nancy of Haynesville, LA. He is survived by one sister, Susan Killgore Word of Baton Rouge, LA.

Survivors also include his in-laws Sonny and Barbara McClanahan of Haynesville, LA and brother-in-law Ricky McClanahan and wife Joyce of Lafayette, LA. and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and grand nieces and nephews. Kenny graduated from Haynesville High School in 1969.

He was an outstanding baseball pitcher in high school and enjoyed playing in many all-star games as a teenager. He attended NSU and LA Tech studying geology. His early career years were spent learning the operations of the oilfield industry; following college he quickly advanced to supervisory and management roles spanning the ArkLaTex and Oklahoma areas.

His last few years were spent as a consultant working south of Shreveport in the Haynesville Shale. Kenny earned the respect of everyone he had the opportunity to work with. He was most noted for the manner in which he treated his employees.

He was fair and respectful to all, whether it was a company man or a youngster on his first job, making sure he knew every employee by first name. Kenny led an active life and enjoyed many hobbies, some of which were fishing, golfing, and hunting. He did all this with his loving wife, Vicki, who enjoyed the same things.

He especially enjoyed their trips to Alaska where they took pleasure in salmon fishing on the Kenai. His last few months were spent enjoying the serenity of his farm where he appreciated spending time with his family the most. Some of his fondest memories were there, where he taught his children and grandchildren the skills of outdoor life.

Throughout his whole life, he preached not to be wasteful and make sure you place value on the right things, which are your family and friends. Take what life gives you, accept it, make the best of it and move on. Kenny was an enormously gifted man with a huge love for his family and friends.

He will be dearly missed by all. Kenny grew up in the Haynesville United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful long-standing member. He served his community honorably as a city councilman for 8 years having followed in his father’s footsteps.

About all a man can leave in this life that really matters is a good reputation and a good name. Kenny has sure left that legacy for his family, friends, and community. Pallbearers will be Johnny Killgore, Ryan Hammond, Brett Hammond, Mike “Bud” Judd, Cade Judd and Collin Merritt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Lee, Larry Maddox, Jerry Smith, Keith Drewry, Dalton Triplet, and Ricky McClanahan. The family would like to express their gratitude to the pastors, doctors, nurses, and caregivers at CMMC, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Regional Hospice, and family and friends who provided services, comfort, support and prayers during Kenny’s illness.
