E. Jeane’s Obituary Emilie Jeane Libby, 96 WINDHAM – E. Jeane Libby, 96, of Windham, Maine, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, at her daughter’s home with her daughter by her side. The daughter of the late C. Edward and Dorothy (Cooper) Phair, Jeane was born on November 27, 1922.

Jeane was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John E. Phair; a son, Alan C. Libby; and her beloved husband, Donald R. Libby. Jeane grew up on the family potato farm in Limestone, Maine. She graduated from Limestone High School and attended Westbrook Junior College.

She graduated from New England Baptist Hospital, School of Nursing in Boston, and did general duty at Maine General Hospital. On June 29, 1946, she married Donald R. Libby. They resided in Portland until 1954 when they moved to South Portland.

In 2001, Jeane moved to her new home on Collins Pond. Jeane was a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a very kind and caring person.

She was devoted to her family. She is remembered for being a great cook and homemaker. She loved to go shopping but would always leave lunch on the table for Donald before she went.

Music was a big part of her life. In high school she was in the Glee Club, Orchestra, and played the trumpet in the band. She played the piano and would play at 75 State Street every Sunday afternoon for many years, and later at Ledgewood Nursing Home.

She sang in the choir at many churches over the years, as well as with the Sweet Adelines and the Casco Bay Singers. She played the hand bells at Woodfords Congregational Church. Jeane was a nurse for many years at the Jewish Home for the Aged on Portland’s Eastern Prom.

She was on the Board of Managers at 75 State Street. She was very active in school and parent organizations while raising her four children. Jeane was awarded the Volunteer Service Award for her many years of dedicated service to Seventy Five State.

She was an active volunteer at the churches she belonged to over the years and at various nursing homes. She would often be making cards, crafts, and baked goods for the residents. She is survived by three children and three grandchildren, son, John P. Libby of Monteville, Maine and his daughter, Ena Lupine of Sacramento, CA; daughter, Susan Stewart and her husband, Ken of Arlington, Texas, their two daughters, Cassie Stewart of NYC and Courtney Stewart of Arlington, Texas; and daughter, Nancy Cleveland of Windham.

Visiting hours will be 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. The funeral service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, January 3, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 4, at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.
