Mavis’ Obituary Mavis Steele Carroll Davis April 10, 1923 – December 27, 2018 BIDDEFORD POOL – Mavis Steele Carroll Davis of Biddeford Pool, Maine, passed peacefully at the Cedars in Portland. She was 95. Mavis was the daughter of George and Mary Mae Curtis Steele of Double Springs, Winston County, Alabama.

She graduated from Hayleyville High School in 1941 to work for U.S. Steel during WWII as a giant crane and vat operator to pour liquid steel into molds. After WWII, Mavis worked as a dental hygienist for U.S. Steel. After moving to Maine in 1958, she worked as a dental hygienist on Congress Street in Portland for Dr. Cope.

Her last position was as a support employee at Maine Medical Center. In 1948, Mavis married Oscar Carroll in Alabama (deceased 1982). Mavis and Oscar raised a family in South Portland.

In 1977, Mavis married Gordon Davis of Cape Elizabeth and Biddeford Pool (deceased 2000). Mavis and Gordon led a blest and active life in Biddeford Pool. She is survived by her sister, Cindy Otwell Farr; step-son, Peter Davis; step-daughter, Karen Davis Hayes; son, Frank Carroll; daughter, Lisa Bonney; daughter-in-law, Lilian; son-in-law, Kerry; seven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, spread across the country.

All friends are invited to a Memorial Service, Wednesday, 2:30 p.m., January 2, 2019, at the Cedars, 630 Ocean Avenue, Portland, Maine. Condolences may be expressed online at www. hobbsfuneralhome.com.
