Edyth’s Obituary Edyth Elizabeth Spillers Key passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 82 years of age. The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett. A private family burial service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery with Edyth’s son-in-law, Travis Lucas, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett. Edyth was born on August 29, 1936 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Lee Spillers and Madeline Rives Spillers. Edyth was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Key, her parents, and her brothers, Robert Spillers and Ruel Spillers.
A devoted wife, Edyth was blessed with 61 years of marriage to her husband, Byron. As lifetime residents of Burkburnett, Edyth and Byron had four daughters, and enjoyed a wonderful life together raising their family, and making cherished memories with their grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Edyth was employed by several local oil companies throughout her life as an oil and gas secretary.
She was a proprietor in her own right, as she amassed over her lifetime a great deal of experience aiding her husband Byron, who ran his own business, Key Cabinets and Construction. The most fruitful aspect of Edyth’s life was her family. Not only was she heavily involved in the lives and activities of her daughters during their school years, Edyth was regularly consumed in the lives of her grandchildren, as her primary focus was to leave an indelible impact that would be visible to any such person who encountered them.
Edyth was a member of the Church of Christ of Burkburnett and the Burkburnett Modern Study Club. She spent the last remaining years of her thorough life at Atria Assisted Living in Grand Prairie, where she was actively involved in community activities and forged new friendships. Edyth is survived by her four daughters: Sherry Doty and husband James Doty of Wylie, Cathy Duran and husband Billy Duran of Grand Prairie, Christie Kromer and husband Ross Kromer of Devol, Oklahoma, and Elizabeth Lucas and husband Travis Lucas of Leesburg, Virginia.
She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Jennifer and Jeremy Gilbertson and family of Newcastle, Oklahoma, Meredith and Jason McMahon and family of Fort Worth, Brandon and Andie Doty and family of Rowlett, Christopher and Lindy Kromer and family of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Erin Duran of Norwich, Connecticut, Haley Kromer of Yukon, Oklahoma, Tyler Lucas of Leesburg, Virginia, BJ and Jessica Duran and family of The Colony, and Doug and Melanie Strange and family of Holliday. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren: Jacob Gilbertson, Jared Gilbertson, Sophia Duran, Madeline McMahon, Jenna Gilbertson, Duke Strange, Marklie Strange, Carter McMahon, Julian Duran, Will Doty, Bianca Duran, Kate Doty, Mallory McMahon, and Kaiden Kromer. Edyth is also survived by her sister, Brenda Spillers Bailes of Burkburnett, and numerous nieces and nephews.
