Obituary for Eliza Mayhan Penn Eliza Mae Mayhan Penn, 80, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018. She was born July 13, 1937 in McDowell County, West Virginia, to the late John Richard Daniel Mayhan and Sarah Louise Redd Valentine. In addition to her parents, Mae Penn was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Andrew Penn I, and a brother, Colonel Valentine.

Mae Penn was a dedicated church member at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and was head of the Outreach Ministry, Church Clerk, and sang in the choir and held many positions there during her lifetime. She volunteered at Grace Network, Red Cross, worked with Voter Register and was involved in the Neighborhood Watch program in the community, and other local organizations. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her baking.

Mae Penn is survived by her daughters, Veronica Denise Hagwood (Sammy), and Tabbatha Alisha Jones (Kenneth); sons, Richard Albert Penn (Jennifer), Kenneth Leon Penn (Crystal), and Jesse Andrew Penn, II (Penny); surrogate daughters, Linda Dillard, and Faye Hairston (Will); sisters, Frances Bracey, Sara Morrison, Gloria Tanks, Wanda Hairston, Patricia Preston and Vanessa Simmons; brothers, Fitzgerald Mayhan, Quincly Valentine, Rev. Ernest Leroy Valentine and Nathaniel Valentine; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; and a surrogate granddaughter, Amanda Thompson. The funeral will be on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Galilean House of Worship with visitation at 11:00 PM.
