Obituary for Herman Franklin Hopkins Herman Franklin Hopkins, 87, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Salem VA Hospital in Salem, Virginia. He was born January 24, 1931 to the late Samuel and Leola Campbell Hopkins Moore. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was Senior Vice Commander for the VFW and Trustee and Chairman of the Red Cross Blood Drive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Geneva Hopkins; sister, Thelma Bryant; and two grandchildren. Mr. Hopkins is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Roena Bowman Hopkins; sons, Richard Hopkins (Pam), Larry Hopkins (Judy), and Michael Hopkins; loving stepdaughter and caregiver, Bettina Hawks, and Sheila Lackey (Rob); sister, Nancy Scott; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and special friends/caregivers, Lisa Galiger and Rhonda Jarrett.

The funeral will be Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodland Heights Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Russell Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Stanley Waddell and Minister Jay Summerlin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Woodland Heights Freewill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund, Gideons International, or Salem VA Hospital Volunteer Services in Salem, Virginia.
