Obituary for Elizabeth L. Prater Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Prater, 72, of Beloit, WI, died on April 13, 2018 in her home surrounded by her husband Preston Prater, sister Liza Lyon and close friends, Wanda Ingram and Lorraine Oldenberg. Bette fought a very courageous battle against cancer. She was a very loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and great aunt who loved her family, dear friends, and many animals in which she also cared for.

She was born on April 24, 1945 in Watertown, WI, the daughter of Elmer Gusfer Becker and Grace Mae Mankowski. Bette was a 1963 graduate of Beloit Catholic High School. She received her CNA license from Blackhawk Technical College.

Bette married Gerald Preston Prater on February 27, 1965 in Rockford, IL. The two were married for 53 years. Bette was employed as a CNA at a nursing home and retired from Wal-Mart.

She enjoyed polka dancing, gaming machines, cooking, and caring for her cats and dogs. Survivors include her husband, Gerald Preston Prater; sons, Neal and Brett Prater; sister, Liza Kay Lyon; niece, Shaina Wasmund; great nieces, Jayce Mae Douglas and Janiya Rose Douglas; nephew, Alec Preston Hahn; cousins, Linda (John) Poysa, Nancy (Norm) Reno and many more; very close friends, Kay Elliott, Lorraine Oldenberg, Donna Dobratz, Karen Wood, and Carol Garry; and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Grace Mae Fondell; father, Elmer Gusfer Becker; brother, Robert James Becker; many aunts, uncles, other relatives.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Vogel, Robin and Tammi at the Beloit Cancer Center for their tender care; also to Kay Elliott, Kayleen Nash, Lorraine Oldenberg, and Wanda Ingram for helping us with Bette in our time of need! Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Floral Lawn Cemetery Shrine of Memories Mausoleum, 835 Dearborn Ave. , South Beloit, IL, with Reverend Kelvin Swanson officiating.

Visitation of remembrance for Bette’s family will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Mausoleum. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements. Bette, In life we loved you dear, in death we do the same It broke our hearts to loose you but you left us with precious memories and you will remain our loving guide.

Though we can not see you, your spirit will always be at our side. Bette, you will be deeply missed. Shine bright.
