Elizabeth Weston Hicklin “Billie” DePuy, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. She was born on April 27, 1922 in Richburg, SC, a daughter of the late Helen McRae and Ira Kell Hicklin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur DePuy; and three siblings, Thelma Hicklin Boyd, Louise Hicklin Nation, and Robert McLean Hicklin.

Billie attended Winthrop College and worked in several professions before she decided she wanted a sense of adventure. … Read More » She then worked with the U.S. State Department in Vietnam and then later in the U.S. Embassy in London where she met her future husband, Art DePuy while he was working for Honeywell. They married in 1961 and spent several years living in England before retiring to a farm they named “Sweaty Brow” in upstate New York.

After Art died in 1987, Billie spent several more years in New York before moving to the King’s Grant Community in Martinsville, VA in 1993, being one of the first members of the community there. Billie is survived by her step-daughter, Beth DePuy; sister, Helen “Pat” Baumann of King’s Grant, Martinsville, VA; and thirteen nieces and nephews as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 at King’s Grant Victory Chapel in Martinsville, VA with Chaplain Paul Johnson and The Reverend Mark Hinchcliff officiating.

A reception will follow the service at King’s Grant. Memorials in Billie’s name may be made to the King’s Grant Fellowship Fund, 350 Kings Way Road, Martinsville, VA 24112, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory of Martinsville, VA is serving the DePuy family.
