Evelyn Ray Mrs. Evelyn Ray, age 71, of Lebanon, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning (April 29, 2018) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee. Born April 13, 1947 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Holiday and Arbutus Hargis Runyon. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Rich Valley United Methodist Church.
A devoted Christian for many years, she enjoyed singing and serving in ministry alongside her husband. Her favorite pastimes include quilting, gardening, cooking and working puzzles, but she found her greatest enjoyment in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Runyon and one nephew, Douglas Runyon.
Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Rev. Darrell Ray of the home, five children, Missy Vandyke and husband, Jackie of Oakwood, Virginia, Rodney Ray and fiancée, Glendeen of Hansonville, Virginia, James Ray and wife, Collis of Asheboro, North Carolina, Marlene Rattliff and husband Mike of Rosedale, Virginia, Jackie Ray and wife, Carla of Hansonville, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Adam Ray and wife, Kate of Radford, Virginia, Jerkia Yates and husband, Benny of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, Cody Ray, Bailey Ray and Addison Ray all of Asheboro, North Carolina, Chassity Ray and Jacklynn Ray both of Hansonville, Virginia and Ethan Ratliff and Owen Ratliff both of Rosedale, Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Jayleigh Yates of Cedar Bluff, Virginia; two brothers, Johnny Wayne Runyon of Davenport, Virginia and Richard Runyon of Vansant, Virginia; special aunt, Geraldine Harris and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
Bob Brewer and Rev. J.C. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Adam Ray, Cody Ray, Ethan Ratliff, Michael Harris, Mike Breeding, Carter Rasnake, Ritchie Ray, Justin Runyon, Wayne Runyon and Greg Broadwater. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Smith, Lawrence Cantrell, Paul Hess, Joley Rasnake and all area ministers. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Monday at the Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7 PM.
