Obituary for Bryant “Chick” Hess Mr. Bryant “Chick” Hess, age 86, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Thursday (April 19, 2018) at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. Born June 23, 1931 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Toy and Mary Barton Hess. He had spent most of his life in the Russell and Buchanan County areas and was a member of the Tunnel Hill Freewill Baptist Church.

A veteran of the United States Army, he had served during the Korean Conflict. He was a disabled coal miner, having been employed at several area mines. Having an enjoyment for life, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Courtney Leeann Honaker, three brothers, Earl Hess, Edward Hess, and Roy Hess, and one sister, Emma Gay Sprouse. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Geneva “Neen” Hess of the home; two daughters, Audrey Cross and husband, Donald of Honaker and Rita Honaker and husband, Wes of Lebanon; four granddaughters, Genesa Ray, Kelly Coffey and husband, Brandon, Sarah Fuller and husband, Brandon, and Brittany Honaker; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Ray, Harper Coffey, and Liam Coffey; one expected great-granddaughter, Liara Fuller; one brother, D.C. Hess and wife, Mary; three sisters, Becky Fuller and husband, Randy, Myrtle Clark, and Pam Arwood and husband, Chuck; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sylvia Hess, Jenell Hess, O.B. and Barbara Lockhart, Louise Lockhart and Marie Lockhart; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.

Darrell Reynolds and Rev. Steve Lester officiating. Interment will follow in the Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Coffey, Brandon Fuller, John Lester, Dustin McCoy, Jim Blankenship, Tim Sprouse, Gavin Ray and Liam Coffey. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Perkins, Jerry Perkins, Nolan Harris, Ben Miller, Estil Peck and Darren Ratliff. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home from 6 PM-9 PM Saturday.
