Francis’ Obituary Francis Dean Kelly February 16, 1927 – January 14, 2019 Francis passed away peacefully Monday morning at Edgewood Assisted Living in his hometown of Minot, ND just shy of his 92nd birthday. Born in Grenora, ND, he was the first of 9 children to Francis E. Kelly and Helen (Forsgren) Kelly. Moving to Minot, Francis attended St. Leo’s Catholic School.

In the summer after ninth grade Francis went to the state of Washington and worked at Boeing on B-17 aircraft. He later joined the Marines and served in the infantry to the end of WWII. He graduated from John Muir Junior College in Pasadena, CA in 1949 and continued his education at UCLA.

Francis returned to Minot to work on the Great Northern Railroad before joining the Air Force and serving in an all-weather fighter squadron in Korea. After the war Francis returned to California and finished his education with a degree in Chemistry at UC at Berkeley. He was employed by Pacific Gas and Electric Company for 30 years at both Moss Landing and Morro Bay power plants, retiring in 1987.

Francis moved back to Minot for 9 years in 1993 then returned to California until 2015. He then made his final return to Minot where he made Edgewood his home. He loved deeply and is deeply loved, respected and adored.

He is survived by: Two daughters, Victoria Lee Brenner of Clovis, CA and Bethany Deanne Kelly-Groucutt of Totnes, England; grandsons, Jordan Brenner of Ventura, CA, Jeffrey Brenner of Fresno, CA and Alexander Kelly Litterell of Bakersfield, CA; sisters, Anne Brodell, Bernie Muus and Mary Eide of Minot, Pat Thompson of Grand Forks, Hedgie Poling of Bismarck and Judy Parsley of Boise, ID; brothers, Jerry Kelly of San Diego, CA and Mike Kelly of Laguna Niguel, CA; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, January 18, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Minot, ND. Inurnment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
