Garth E. Hoffman, 77, of York, died peacefully, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Normandie Ridge. Born in Carlisle on June 18, 1941, he was the son of the late Eugene and Pauline (Sheaffer) Hoffman. Garth was the loving husband of the late Carolyn (Fuehrer) Hoffman, who died May 25, 2018.

Garth attended Carlisle High School until 1957. He then was accepted on a music scholarship to the Valley Forge Military Academy. He graduated from Valley Forge in 1958, and served as the academy’s band drum major.

He went on to graduate from the junior college at the academy in 1961. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and in 1965 graduated from Officer Candidate School at Ft. Sill, OK.

He served 23 years with the National Guard, retiring as a Major. Garth later graduated from York College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Garth was employed in human res for AMF, York Shipley, and Yorktowne Kitchens.

He retired from Yorktowne Kitchens as the Director of Human Res. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Hoffman Associates, a human re consulting business. Garth was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

He was also a member of the York Renaissance Club, the York Riflemen Club, the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club, the Manufacturer’s Association of York, and the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Group aka Romeo’s (Real Old Men Eating Out). He enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, the Washington Redskins, the New York Yankees, and playing cards with his buddies. Garth vacationed each summer with his wife and children in Fenwick Island, DE.

He also loved to travel with his wife Carolyn and dear friends, Barb and Rich Sindicich, especially each summer to Lake Bonaparte, NY. Garth is survived by his sons, Garth A. Hoffman of York and Scott D. Hoffman of Doylestown; his daughter, Jill H. Walton and her husband, Doyle of Doylestown; and his brothers, Alan Hoffman and his wife, Janet of Mt. Holly Springs and Joel Hoffman and his wife, Jill of Frisco, TX.

He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Demi, Gigi, Teague, Skye, Lark, Hollis, and Beckett. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janie Sparling. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, PA 17403 with Rev.

Richard D. Smith officiating. The family will receive family and friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private interment in Westminster Cemetery in Carlisle will be held at the convenience of the family.
