GARY L. “BEAR” TURNER, 67, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, following three years of courageously battling cancer. He was born in Springfield on April 3, 1951, the son of Rufus and Donna J. (Lyons) Turner. Gary was a 1969 graduate of Springfield South High School where he excelled at football and track & field.

Gary briefly played professional football with the Chicago Bears and the Canadian Football League. Following his football career, he went to work for the State of Ohio Bureau of Unemployment, retiring in 2008 after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Eagles Club, Browns Backers and Ducks Unlimited.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, riding motorcycles, going to garage sales and playing cards with his family on Sunday afternoons. Gary enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball and Pee Wee Football. He will always be remembered for his distinctive eyes.

Gary is survived by his father; sons, Payton Turner and Clint (Angie) Turner; sisters, Pamela Hudson and Nancy Kelley; brother, Marc (Dyane) Turner; grandchildren, Matthew, Lillian, Delylah, Brittany, RJ, Ethan, and Hunter; nieces and nephews, Jesse, Madee, Mary Jayne, and Danielle; great nephew and nieces, Dominic, Trinity and Baylie; and his four-legged son, Jaxson Eli. He was preceded in death by his mother; a granddaughter, Gracie; a nephew, Trinity Hudson; and a niece April Lynne Diffendal. A time to gather and celebrate Gary’s life will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
