Gloria E. Ohms, 93, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Gloria was born on September 1, 1924 in Glen Carbon at home. She is the daughter of the late George and Eleanore (Rosipal) Going.

She was a clerk typist and secretary for the State of Illinois, Department of Public Aid and the Army Depot in Granite City, retiring in August of 1986. Gloria was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Glen Carbon, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Episcopal Church Women. Gloria enjoyed her time playing Bingo and never missed a chance to play pinochle.

Gloria enjoyed crafting and was a talented seamstress, who designed and sewed her daughter’s baton costumes for twirling competitions over many years. She will be remembered for her loving heart and all the special times she shared together with her family and friends. Gloria is survived by and will be missed by her son, Richard Ohms of Edwardsville, Illinois; daughter, Linda (Tom) Hunot of Bridgeton, Missouri; granddaughter, Katie Hunot of Gilbert, Arizona; dear friends and neighbors, Pat and Wayne Meier; caregiver and friend, Connie Evans, whose assistance allowed her to continue living in her own home; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended close family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her husband; Raymond Ohms, whom she married on May 3, 1949; sisters, Elaine (Bruno) Zaganelli and Elma (John) Sasek; brothers, Elton (Ruth) Going and Jim (Dorothy) Going; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Robert) Goff and Evelyn (Bill) Clinton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 182 Summit, Glen Carbon, Illinois. Visitation will continue on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. with Bishop Anthony Clavier officiating.

Burial will follow at Glen Carbon City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Episcopalian Church, the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association. Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon is serving the family.
