Norma Jean Werner, age 88, of Maryville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL. Norma Jean was born on October 28, 1929 in Glen Carbon, IL, a daughter of the late John Schiller and Elizabeth (Miller) Schiller. On September 21, 1957, Norma Jean Schiller married Elwood J. Werner, the love of her life, at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL.

Elwood passed away on September 7, 2007. Norma Jean retired from the Edwardsville Intelligencer as a typesetter after forty years of dedicated service. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and relaxing in her daughter’s pool.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, whom she adored. Norma Jean loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and devoted husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Schiller. She is survived by her loving children, Brian J. Werner of Collinsville, IL, Diane E. Brown of Collinsville, IL and Karen J. (Terry) McGrath of Edwardsville, IL; dear grandmother to Jason Brown, Abby McGrath, Brendan McGrath and Colin McGrath; dear great-grandmother to Makenna; extended family and friends. In celebration of her life, a private family service will held.

Norma Jean will be laid to rest next to Elwood at Buck Road Cemetery, Glen Carbon, IL. Memorial donations may be given to Father McGivney Catholic High School or to American Diabetes Association. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
