Obituary for Helen Sparks Helen A. Sparks, 99 of Evansville passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. She was born February 11, 1919, in Evansville to the late Lucinda (Peck) and Admiral Hawkins. Helen was a graduate of Central High School, and went on to graduate from cosmetology school in Evansville.

She sang in the USO during WWII. Helen worked at Swift and Co., Chrysler Corporation and worked as a CNA for 40 years in Kissimmee, Florida. She was very active in church and sang in the Silver Bells Chorus.

She was very active at SWIRCA. Helen loved to dance, play clabber, laughing, bowling, the ocean, and sunrises. Helen is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo (Paul) Myers Wargel of Evansville; granddaughter, Dawn (Jeff) Myers Werkmeister of Evansville; great granddaughter, Heather Werkmeister Goebel; great grandson, Kyle (Kristin) Werkmeister; great great grandchildren, Grant and Hudson Goebel, Alaina Werkmeister; many many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Loren Hawkins; son-in-law, Vaughn Myers; special aunt, Mildred Burns; special cousins, Juanita Karr and Bo Peck. Visitation will be 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel 800 S. Hebron, Evansville. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Father Ted Tempel officiating.

Private burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to SWIRCA, 16 W Virginia St, Evansville, IN 47710 or Evansville Rescue Mission, 500 E Walnut St, Evansville, IN 47713. Father Ted Tempel for his care and the many visits he made to see Helen, and also the many friends at Newburgh Healthcare, whom Helen considered family, for the love and compassion she was shown.
