Jack Barbour Schneider September 22, 1931 – January 22, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Jack Barbour Schneider, 87, of Snowflake, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. He was born September 22, 1931, in McNary, Arizona, to parents, Elmer and Winona (Barbour) Schneider. Jack graduated from Snowflake High School and later attended Eastern Arizona College before serving an LDS mission to the Northern States.
Upon his return, he promptly married his high school sweetheart, LaVell Hunt, on February 27, 1953. They resided in Snowflake until his draft notice to the United States Army arrived on September 14, 1954. He served 2 years in Fort Ord, California, and Fort Benning, Georgia.
Jack was a lover of the outdoors and sports. He loved camping and spending time with family. He was a gentle giant with a humble spirit that appreciated the simple things in life.
Jack made his career in the restaurant business for 17 years; first in Washington starting the “Pizza Haven” with 2 friends from BYU and then after 5 years returned to Arizona to start his own restaurant “Snides House of Pizza” near the ASU campus. The hustle and bustle of city life eventually moved them back to Snowflake in 1974 where they both became employed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They worked here until their retirement enjoying once again the association of family and dear friends.
He loved to work with his hands and build, including play houses and real houses. Jack also served as a School bus driver for the Lobo sports teams for a number of years. He loved being with the youth and watching and cheering them on his entire life.
Some of his latest wishes were to attend one more game! Jack loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and his membership in the Church! He served in the scouting program for years and in various other callings including Bishop of the Snowflake 1st Ward.
He loved the pioneer heritage of the Church and participated in treks and loved teaching his children Church history. He will be remembered for his kind, fun-loving, teasing manner, and his devoted love of wife and family. He is survived by his five children, Lisa (Richard) Eich, Kelly (Kent) Williams, Jeff (Norma) Schneider, Paula (Lynn) Johnson, and Barry (Karla) Schneider; sister, Mary Hunt, and brother, Bob Schneider; 23 grandchildren and a host of step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Main Street Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Saturday, January 26th at 10:00 am. A family greeting line will begin at 9:00 am. There will be no viewing.
Internment will be at R.V. Mike Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake.
