James E. “Jim” Benson, 60, of West Bridgewater, MA passed away unexpectedly, April 18, 2018. Born June 20, 1957 in Brockton he was the son of S. Erick Benson of West Bridgewater and the late Leah A. (Soell) Benson. Jim was a 1975 graduate of West Bridgewater High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Muhlen and Berg College.

He lived in West Bridgewater most of his live and had worked in the lumber business and most recently he had been the long time Parish Administrator for the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where he also served on several boards through the years. Jim managed the “Food For Friends”, food pantry at the church, he was the Town Moderator of West Bridgewater, Past President of Brockton Historical Association, Chairman of the West Bridgewater Historical Society, President Elect of the Campello Business Association and the Forks Fish and Game Association in Forks, Maine. He was a well know Author in the Brockton area publishing 6 books of historical significance.

He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, postcard collecting, reading, history, writing and spending time at his moxie camp in Maine. In addition to his father Erick of West Bridgewater he is survived by a sister Cheryl A. Packard and her husband Philip of West Bridgewater; a niece Corinne Packard and her husband Scott Bradley of CO; a nephew Christopher Packard and his wife Nicole of West Bridgewater; a great niece Abigail Bradley of CO; a great nephew Cole Packard of West Bridgewater and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jim was deeply loved and will be missed by all.

Memorial Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 4-8 PM in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 900 Main St., Brockton, MA. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 10:00 AM in the Church followed by interment at Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater. At the families request memorial gifts may be given to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church or to a Charity of you choice.
