James “Jim” Reginald Davenport Jr., age 74, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at his home. Jim was born September 21, 1943 in Eldorado, IL, a son of the late James R. Davenport Sr. and Anne (Palfy) Davenport. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Phoenix James Davenport and Aryana Rochael Lynette Davenport.

Jim was a United States Air Force veteran who proudly served his country. On February 14, 1970, Jim married Joyce Wood, the love of his life, in Granite City, IL. Jim worked for Schermers Brothers Grocery Store for twelve years.

He retired from Prairie Farms Dairy in Granite City, IL, after twenty-five years. After retirement, Jim worked for the Granite City Park District as a security guard and for Illinois Central Bus Service as a bus monitor. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs Baseball fan, and he enjoyed watching the games on television.

He also enjoyed going to the horse track in Fairmont Park, gardening and working in his yard, which was always immaculate. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and being a grandpa. Jim loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family, friends, and his cats.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his devoted wife of forty-eight years, Joyce Davenport; loving children, Stacey (Richard) White, Amy (Robert) Nunn, Ryan (Anisha) Davenport and Bradley (Kristina) Davenport; proud grandfather to Christian Hildreth, Richard White, Jr., Christopher White, Savannah Nunn, Arabella Davenport, Riley Davenport, Taylor Davenport and Carter Davenport; sister, DeAnne (Randy) Clark; several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.

In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, with Pastor Donald Wagner officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.
