James F. “Jim” Retter, 57, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 in Edwardsville, Illinois. He was born April 9, 1961 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of James and Margaret (Johnston) Retter of Iowa. He married Vanessa M. (Knuth) Retter on March 7, 2009 at the Villa Marie Winery in Maryville and she survives.

He was the President and founder of The Advisory Group in Edwardsville with 10 years of service in wealth management as a financial advisor. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and loved his days of fishing and hunting, had a special love for dogs and enjoyed traveling. He was a member of Metro Community Church in Edwardsville and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he is survived by five children, Jessica (Christopher) Bell of Amarillo, Texas, Amanda Retter of Kansas City, Missouri, Benjamin Retter of Kansas City, Missouri, Keaton Huber of Glen Carbon and Brooklyn Huber of Glen Carbon; four grandchildren, Maximus Greim, Juliette Greim, Avan Nicsinger and Evy Bell; four sisters, Jennifer (Patrick) Patten of Oklahoma, Sue (Doug) Owen of Iowa, Marnie (Joe) Wayman of St. Louis, Missouri and Kate Quigley of Kansas City, Missouri; his former wife of 25 years, Becky (Graff) Retter of Kansas City, Missouri; many nieces; nephews; other extended family; many friends; clients and colleagues. In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Paul Westbrook officiating. Memorials may be made to the Retter family and may be accepted at the funeral home.
