Cecelia M. Mountz, age 74, of Maryville, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Christian Hospital, St. Louis, MO, with her loving family by her side. Cecelia was born on October 2, 1943 in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Alexander George Markuly and Nanette (Evangeloff) Markuly. On December 20, 1970, Cecelia married Charles “Chuck” Mountz, the love of her life, at Holy Trinity Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church in Madison, IL.

Cecelia was a faithful member of Saints Cyril & Methody Orthodox Church in Granite City, IL. A proud alumni of Southern Illinois University, she earned her Bachelor’s degree at the Carbondale campus, and her Master’s Degree in Education at SIU-Edwardsville. She taught science for many years, most recently at District 211 in Cook County.

Cecelia also volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln Museum in Springfield, IL. Cecelia loved to read, travel, and learning about American history, having read dozens of book on the subject. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, whom she adored.

Cecelia loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Cecelia is survived by her devoted husband of forty-seven years, Charles “Chuck” Mountz Sr. of Maryville, IL; loving children, Charles (Ann) Mountz Jr. of Harpers Ferry, VA and Dezhda (Richard) Gaubert of Los Angeles, CA; dear brother George Alexander Markuly of Madison, IL; proud grandmother to Henry Gaubert, Charlotte Mountz and Cooper Mountz; extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL, with a Panikida Service at 7:00 p.m. On Friday a second visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Saints Cyril & Methody Orthodox Church, 4770 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, with Father Andrew Moulton officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Barrack National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Saints Cyril & Methody Orthodox Church and the Christian Hospital Foundation. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel and church. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.
