Victor “Gene” Wilson, age 86, of Madison, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City, IL. Gene was born on June 16, 1931 in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late Frank Arthur Wilson and Edith Erma Wilson. On August 13, 1950, Gene married Violet Deloris Miller, the love of his life, in Olive Branch, IL.

He was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Granite City, IL, where he served as a Deacon and had taught Sunday school. Gene worked at A.O. Smiths as a welder in Granite City, IL, for many years. He then went to work for and retired from Landshire Distribution in Belleville, IL, as a mechanic’s helper.

Gene never met a stranger and he enjoyed driving his antique cars around town. His greatest joy was going to church to serve the Lord and spending time with his family. Gene loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by five brothers; and by a son-in-law, Irv Weinman. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-seven years, Violet Wilson of Madison, IL; loving children, Deloris Wilson of Madison, IL, Linda Weinman of Creve Coeur, MO, Carl (Gail) Wilson of Paducah, KY, Ruth (Ed) Henderson of Nashville, IL, James Wilson of Mitchell, IL and Rodger (Kim) Wilson of Bolingbrook, IL; proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with Rev. Brian Smith officiating.

Interment will be in St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. Memorial donations may be given to Second Baptist Church. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
