John J. Onesky, age 73, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Sycamore Village Assisted Living in Swansea, IL. John was born on December 30, 1944 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Frank Onesky and Agnes (Sveda) Onesky. John was a faithful member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, IL.

He retired as a deputy sheriff from Madison County Sheriffs Department in 1995, after many years of dedicated service. John was a lifetime member of Madison County Police Association, lifetime member of Illinois Police Association, Police Benevolent Unit #118, Operating Engineers Local #520, and a member of Venice Social Club. John loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Frank J. Onesky; and by a niece, JoAnn Dietzel. Proud uncle to Michael (Karen) Onesky of Troy, IL and Karen (Buck) Elton of Niceville, FL; proud great-uncle to Nichole Dietzel, Ryan Onesky, Amy Onesky, Zach Onesky, Luke Elton and Chad Elton; extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL. In celebration of his life, funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Father John Beveridge officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.
