Obituary for Jean T Wegrzyn Jean T. (Gwozdz) Wegrzyn, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2018 at JGS Lifecare in Longmeadow, surrounded by her loving family. Born January 6, 1932, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Sroka) Gwozdz, she was a lifelong Chicopee resident. Jean was a graduate of Chicopee High School, Class of 1949, and continued her education with additional years of business school.
She retired from the Pension Trust Dept. of Mass Mutual after many years of service. Prior to that she worked in the business office of Steiger’s Department Store.
A communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr, Jean was a member of the Rosary Society and sang in the choir. She and her husband Ted loved to travel, visiting many countries and states, including Aruba, which was a favorite destination for them. She also enjoyed polka dancing and hosting her “Wegrzyn Soup Kitchen” every Saturday, with a big pot of homemade chicken soup that her children and grandchildren would come over to enjoy.
Her family was of most importance to her and she loved and cherished them deeply. Jean’s family would like to thank the staff of JGS Lifecare for their care and compassion, and also, Maria Kula, for many years of dedicated home care prior to that. Jean was predeceased in 2016 by her beloved husband of sixty-four years, Thaddeus R. Wegrzyn, and will be forever in the hearts of her loving children, Cindy Conklin and husband Roger of Chicopee, Terry Webster of Longmeadow, Vivian Moreau and husband Gary of Chicopee, and Ted Wegrzyn, Jr. and wife Suzanne of Belchertown.
In addition, she will be remembered by her eight grandchildren, Justin Moreau and fiancee Kiersten, Joseph Conklin and wife Kate, Roger Conklin, Jr., Nathan Moreau, Bradley Webster, Allison Webster, Emily Wegrzyn, and Teddy Wegrzyn, III; cherished great-granddaughters, Bella and Harper; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Wladyslaw, and six sisters, Jozefa, Bronislawa, Lena, Marion, Stella, and Emily. Funeral services for Jean will be held Tuesday at 9AM from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica.
Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus School Education Fund, 534 Front St., Chicopee, MA, 01013 or St. Stanislaus Ministry of Care, 566 Front St., Chicopee, MA 01013.
