Obituary for Richard J. Gauthier Richard J. “Stick” Gauthier, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side. Born November 30, 1938, son of the late Harvey and Gertrude (Sullivan) Gauthier, he lived for most of his life in Springfield. Richard was a retired mail handler for the US Postal Service and also ran concessions at the Hartford Civic Center, Big E and for many other events.

He was a US Army veteran serving in Germany. As a youth Richard pitched for local baseball teams and was an avid Red Sox fan. An accomplished golfer, he belonged to Ludlow CC and the former Oxford CC where he enjoyed competing in the Hooks Tournament.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of fifty four years, Rita (Florian) Gauthier; four loving children, Frank J. Gauthier, of Springfield, Jacqueline Mandeville and husband David, of Chicopee, Paul R. Gauthier and wife Shavone, of Feeding Hills and Gary J. Gauthier and wife Lena, of Longmeadow; six cherished grandchildren, Christopher Mandeville, Gabriella, Griffin, Giuliana, Luca, and Francesca Gauthier; a sister, Eileen DiSantis, of Springfield; a brother Francis X. Gauthier and wife Elaine, of Suffield, CT; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Howard, Earl and Jack Gauthier, Virginia Chelte and Margaret Shea. Richard’s family extends a special thanks to Krista Sapelli for her care and kindness.

A service for Richard will be held Friday at 9:45AM in Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by burial with Military Honors in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7PM. Upcoming Events Visitation , SEP 27.
