Bode Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the Friend Congregational Church, with Pastor Dave Coleman officiating. Interment is in Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Visitation is Friday, from 1-8:00 p.m. with family receiving relatives and friends from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Viewing is also Saturday 1 hour prior to services at church. Memorials have been established and may be directed in care of the family. Pallbearers are: Mike Stanley, Steve Bode, Steve and Sam Swanson.

Karen Elizabeth Bode was born November 17, 1941, in Greeley, Colorado to Edward and Laura (Thompsen) Swanson, the oldest of three children and passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018, at the Country House in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 77. As a young girl Karen attended country school near Friend and later graduated from Friend High School with the class of 1959. She was united in marriage to Richard L. Bode on February 5, 1959, in the Congregational Church in Fremont and to this union two children, David and Barbara were born.

Together they lived in Lincoln where Karen and Dick built three homes and also remodeled their family home. Karen was the advertising manager for Montgomery Wards Department Store at the Gateway Mall in Lincoln. She was an avid University of Nebraska and Dallas Cowboys football fan, loved reading and working in her yard.

Karen also brought an artistic flare to her cooking and in everything she did. Karen is survived by her son, Dave and daughter, Barb, both of Lincoln; a grandson and spouse, Mike and Kena Stanley, McKinney, TX; two great-grandchildren, Marlee and Jaxon Stanley, also of McKinney; brothers, Dale Swanson, Emerald, Gene Swanson of Crete; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Virginia “Ginny” Bode, Friend; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard “Dick” in 2017, sister-in-law, Jane Swanson in 2018.
