Coupland Robert Drayton Coupland, 71, of Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, died Tuesday, February 19th, 2019 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. “Rob” was born on February 13th, 1948, in Valentine, Nebraska to John and Eula Copeland. Coupland served as an attorney for over 30 years in the Valentine area, working in natural re and environmental law, family law and municipal law.

During his legal career he was the City Attorney for Valentine, Director of the Nebraska Dispute Resolution Advisory Council, the Cherry County Attorney and served as a Commissioner for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, District VI. In 2011, he was diagnosed with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a liver disease that affects the lungs. He learned he could have a weekly infusion that could slow the disease.

At the same time Rob acknowledged his addiction to alcohol, went through treatment and found sobriety and friendship through Alcoholics Anonymous, which was an important part of his life. Rob loved the beauty of the Nebraska Sandhills, canoeing on the Niobrara River, riding his motorcycle when he was able, woodworking, and his dogs Tippy and Mocha. His is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Beaver Crossing.

A gathering of friends and family to honor Rob’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2019, at the Milford United Methodist Church, 610 Second Street, with Rev. Lyle Schoen officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family.
