Richard L Stutzman March 06, 1933 – January 03, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Richard Lee Stutzman was born March 6, 1933, on the home farm east of Beaver Crossing, Nebraska to Lester and Velma (Martin) Stutzman, the oldest of four children and went to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Crestview Care Center in Milford at the age of 85. As a young boy, Richard attended Walnut Creek country school west of his family’s farm through the 8th grade. He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized in his youth at West Fairview Mennonite Church.
Richard was united in marriage to Thelma Stutzman on June 10, 1956, in Wood River, Nebraska at the Wood River Mennonite Church. To this union three children, Gordon, Vickie and Jerlyn were born. Richard farmed for many years and later received his CDL license where he began driving gravel trucks for the county, later hauling livestock for some of his neighbors.
He later drove full time for Stutzman and Son Trucking, Saltzman Trucking in Shickley, and finally with Alan Schulz Trucking of Seward. Alongside his former wife, Thelma, they enjoyed their travels to all parts of the US, where he remarkably, never experienced an accident or receiving a traffic violation. For many years, Richard enjoyed winters in Phoenix and in his spare time, loved fishing when he could, especially with his children and grandchildren.
He was blessed with a second marriage to Mary Thomsen in January of 2016 where they resided in Friend. Richard loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially the times traveling over to Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Mary, Friend; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Terri Stutzman, Beaver Crossing, daughters, sons-in-law, Vickie and Randy Roth, Milford, Jeri and Bruce Knapp, Bloomfield, IA; ten grandchildren and spouses, Tyler, Carson and Bri Stutzman, Hesston, KS, and Kody Stutzman, Beaver Crossing, Brandon and Ashley Roth, Milford, Bryce and Amanda Roth, Auburn, NE, Brock and Shalon Roth, Milford, Brittany and Nick Green, Santa Rosa, CA, Hannah and Brett Johnson, Bloomfield, IA, Cecil and Brandon Reed, Ottumwa, IA, Clarabell Knapp, Bloomfield, IA; 10 great-grandchildren, Ayla and Brodie, Drake, Baylor, Urban, Brecken, Brooks Roth, Maddie Green, Caleb Stutzman and Brigham Reed; a sister, Dorothy Stutzman, Wood River, sisters-in-law, Judy Stutzman, Friend, Merna Boshart, Wood River, Phyllis and Dennis Bauman, Lincoln; brother-in-law, Ralph Stutzman, Wood River, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Thelma in 2009, infant great grandson, Parker J. Green, an infant brother and a brother, Don Stutzman, brothers-in-law, Paul Stutzman, Amos “June” and Omar Boshart, and a sister-in-law, Loretta Boshart. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at Milford Mennonite Church, with Pastor Tim Springer officiating. The graveside service will be held prior to the funeral service at 9:45 a.m. Monday at the Milford Mennonite Cemetery.
Visitation is from 1-4:00 p.m. Sunday at Lauber Funeral Home and family receiving relatives and friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be directed in care of the family. Lauber Funeral and Cremation Services is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
