Surrounded by his loving family, Kelly A. Girard, 58, of Marquette peacefully passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 26, 2018 at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis following complications from a bilateral lung transplant. Kelly was born on June 8, 1960 in Newport News, Virginia, son of the late Millard and Janice (Brown) Girard. He was a graduate of Cheboygan High School Class of 1978.

Kelly was an industrial sales engineer for 30 years traveling throughout the Upper Peninsula where he met many people and made many friends. He lived life to the fullest with passion and laughter. Truly an outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending time at his camp on the Michigamme River with his family and friends.
His hobbies included deer and turkey hunting, fishing, canoeing and camping with the River Dogs, golfing, and wood working. His latest passion was metal detecting and writing a book about the many logging artifacts that he found at camp. He completed the book less than 12 hours before he received the call for his new lungs.
Kelly will be dearly missed by his wife, Judy, and their two children, daughter, Jordan Leigh Girard, and son, Jesse Joseph Girard, both of Marquette; two sisters, Robin (Dan) Westfall of Cheboygan, Michigan and Terry (Vince) Marcinek of Portage, Michigan; his mother-in-law Dorothy Gervais of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Sandy) Gervais, Janis (Dale) Wilson, Jonelle (Harry) Killips, Jerry (Pam) Gervais, Jinny (Tim) Gillett, Joel (Diane) Gervais, and Jolynda (Brad) Brown, all of Sault Ste. Marie.
Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and father in law, Raymond Gervais. The Girard family will greet relatives and friends at St. Louis the King Catholic Church on Monday, July 2nd beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in the church with the Rev.
Glenn Theoret officiating. A luncheon will be served in Fr. Gauthier Hall at the church immediately following the Mass.
Pallbearers will be Mike Lorens, Pat Frye, Brad Brown, Steve Anderson, Keith Palkki and Roger Peterson. Memorials are preferred to the family in lieu of flowers. A special donation will later be made by the family to Hope Chest News, an organization that offers support to transplant families.
