Margaret “Peggy” Jeanne Martiny of Princeville, IL died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, April 15, 2018. She is now with her Heavenly Father and reunited with her husband of 65 years. Peggy was born in her grandparents’ home in Elroy, Wisconsin on November 4, 1929 to Clarence Joseph and Margaret (Morgan) Krumm.

She graduated from Baraboo… Read More » High School and went on to earn a degree in Home Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1951. Peggy was a member and social chair of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.

She was very proud of her Wisconsin heritage and was a lifelong fan of the Badgers and the Packers. Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Myron Cole “Mike” Martiny, on January 27, 1951 in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Upon Mike’s return from service in the Korean War, they moved to Peoria as Mike began a career with Caterpillar Tractor Company.

It was here that they raised their two daughters, Tamia and Barbara. Peggy was an avid reader and enjoyed the arts. Her many paintings and needlepoint projects will be treasured by her family for generations to come.

Peggy was a former President of the Caterpillar Engineer’s Wives and volunteered at the Wildlife Prairie Park. She was a member of Lakeview Fine Arts Association and the Peoria County Republican Women’s Club. Peggy earned the title of Judge in the American Needlepoint Guild and traveled to their national conventions for many years.

Peggy’s family was her greatest pride and joy. She prayed for each one daily and studied the Word of God. She provided her family with wonderful meals and family gatherings and was known for her homemade pies, which she could produce at a moment’s notice.

Peggy was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she was a former Pioneer Girl leader and more recently, a member of the choir. She got no greater pleasure than attending The Peoria Symphony and church on Sunday followed by lunch with her family. Peggy is survived by sister, Barbara (Clifford) Nelson of Dallas, TX; her daughters, Tamia (Steve) Schotthofer of Elkland, MO, and Barbara Daily of Princeville; six grandchildren – Melissa Schotthofer of Springfield, MO, Melanie (Fernando) Soberon of Canandaigua, NY, Stephanie (Matt) Bisek of Whitehall, WI, Matthew (Angela) Daily of Princeville, Morgan (Don) Smith of Wheaton, IL, and Meg (Jordan) Christensen of Glen Ellyn, IL; and ten great-grandchildren – Cole, Marcus, and Owen Daily; Fernando, Elena, Sara, and Lucia Soberon; Aaron Bisek; Aiden Smith; and Reagan Christensen.

Two more great-grandchildren are expected this year. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Her family would like to thank the staff at Lutheran Hillside Village Assisted Living, Heartis Memory Care, and Hospice Compassus for their compassionate care.

A funeral service for Peggy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Grace Presbyterian Church, Peoria, IL. Rev. Kerry Frantz will officiate.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon for family and friends will be held immediately following the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow in the Princeville Township Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Mike and Peggy’s longtime church home, Grace Presbyterian Church, 8607 State Route 91, Peoria, IL 61615, or gracepres.
