MADISON-Matilda “Tooty” Elizabeth Schepp, age 92, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Heritage Monona. She was born on April 15, 1926, in Roxbury, Wis. , the daughter of George Frey and Anna Lochner.
She married Charles Schepp on June 28, 1947, in Roxbury. At an early age, she moved to Madison, where she worked at Rayovac, cleaned houses and was a nanny. Tooty worked as a homemaker and raised ten children on the east side of Madison.
She was a volunteer at St. Mary’s… Read More » for 35 years, Port St. Vincent and Monona Hills. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Tooty liked to stay active as she was a member of Curves in Monona where she made many lifelong friends.
She was a very caring and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and sister-in-law. After her own children were grown and out of the house, Tooty often cared for some of the neighborhood children. Tooty had a great sense of humor and had the ability to share a special connection with people.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. Tooty was a great cook and baker. She was a woman with a strong connection to her faith.
Tooty is survived by five sons, Richard (Donna), Randy (Debbie), Mark (Sally), Jeffrey (JoAnn) and Chuck (Cindy); four daughters, Anne (Denny) Simon, Mary (Jay) Droster, Joan (Nathan) Gast and Katie (Brian) Bierman; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; six brothers, Bernard (Delores) Frey, Philip (Rita) Frey, Howard (Irene) Frey, James (Sybilla) Frey, Roman (Carol) Frey and David (Judy) Frey; daughter-in-law, Diane; sisters-in-law, Vernice Schepp, Barbara Frey, and Sandy Frey;; and nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Michael Schepp; three grandchildren, Emily, Pamela and Rick; three brothers, George Frey, Jr., Harold (Phyllis) Frey and Ralph Frey; and father and mother-in-law, Charles and Mabel Schepp. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Thursday June 28, 2018, with Father Chad Droessler presiding.
Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, and also at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday.
