Peggy Faye Whitfield Miller November 18, 1932 – January 26, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Peggy Faye Whitfield Miller, 86, passed away at her home January 26, 2019, surrounded by her family. Peggy was born on November 18, 1932, in Indianola, a daughter of James “Jim” Whitfield and Flora Martin Whitfield. Peggy was the fifth of five children, and grew up in Indianola where she graduated Valedictorian of Indianola High School Class of 1951.
She worked for Bell Telephone Company until her employment as Administrative Assistant to Clark Bass, President of First National Bank of McAlester, where she worked for 18 years. She then worked as the office manager and co-owner of Miller Glass Company until her retirement in 1996. Peggy spent her retirement years enjoying time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and in simple pleasures like drinking coffee while watching birds from her porch at the farm and eating ice cream with her friends after Sunday night church services.
Peggy was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester where she served as the clerk and as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was Secretary/Treasurer of her Sunday School Class for 40 years. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was her compass and her faith is the foundation of her family.
Her calling and greatest joy was being a mother and she spent many hours teaching her children. She enjoyed listening to them practice band instruments, piano, or singing. She attended all their recitals and concerts, and was very proud of their accomplishments.
Peggy loved to read and passed on that love to her children. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her more joy than words can express. Peggy is survived by her husband of 66 years: Robert “Bob” Henry Miller; daughter: Sheila Hull and husband, Terry of Coweta; son: Jim Bob Miller and wife, Linda of McAlester; daughter: Shelley Miller of Bedford, Texas; granddaughter: Lori Elders and husband, Terry of Muskogee; grandson: Jeffrey Meeks and wife, Kelly of Broken Arrow; grandson: Ethan Miller of Norman; granddaughter: Courtney Miller of Norman; great-granddaughters: Moira Wright, Josie Wright, Emily Meeks, and Lillian Meeks; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: James Michael Whitfield and Flora Mae Martin Whitfield; sister: Golda Jenson; brothers: Glynn Whitfield, Clyde Whitfield, and T. E. “Toots” Whitfield; and nephews: Charles Jenson and Kent Whitfield. The family will greet friends and visitors on Monday, January 28, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester with Pastor Steve Mayhew officiating.
Interment will be held immediately following the service at Tannehill Cemetery.
