Robert’s Obituary Robert Earl “Bo” McCallister, 69, of Lewisberry, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill surrounded by his loved ones. Born October 4, 1949 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Earl and Florence (Kulinski) McCallister. A 1967 graduate of Shenango High School, Bo attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

After 32 years of police service, he retired as a lieutenant for Susquehanna Township. He was the youngest officer ever promoted to the rank of sergeant in the township’s history and its first ever recipient of the Medal of Valor and the Purple Heart Medal for his courageous action in a 1981 bank robbery. Additionally, he received the County Detectives Association of Pennsylvania’s Distinguished Award of Honor in 1981 and The Mayor’s Award for Distinguished Public Service in 2003.

The Dauphin County uniformed officer of the year award, created in 2018, was named the “Lieutenant Robert McCallister Award” in his honor. His baseball accomplishments in his youth carried into coaching his daughter’s softball teams. While being the ultimate handyman and fixer upper, he was passionate for Penn State football, the beach, and his grandchildren.

As a loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather (“Pappy”), he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy (Lytle) McCallister; two daughters, Erin Pugh (David) of Abington, PA and Tressa McCallister of Willow Grove, PA; grandchildren Braya and Brynn Pugh and Ceol Robert and Corwyn Scibilia; sisters Linda (Allen) Dworakowski and their sons Patrick (Shelby), Matthew (Sharon), Loren (Jamie), and Kristan (Heather); Teresa (Mark) Earl and their children Kristopher (Tyra), Jody (Susan), Jessica (Donald), and Amanda; and Cynthia (James) Koscinski and sons James (Lacey) and Joshua; sister-in-law Jeanie (the late Dr. John “Jack”) Capello and their children Christa (Mark), John, and Daniel (Kimberly). The family extends its gratitude to Dr. Calaitges and Dr. Galvan for their heroic efforts to save Bo’s life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg.

A viewing will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, January 25th at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg. Burial will follow at Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
