Ruth Ellen (Niemi) Hart, 90, of Rockport, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2018 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Rockport on June 5, 1928, Ruth was the daughter of the late Waino and Jennie (Oman) Niemi. Ruth grew up in Rockport with her parents and sister, and graduated from Rockport High School and the Fisher School.

Ruth was married for 55 years to the late Donald J. Hart. Before her retirement, Ruth worked at the Early Radio and TV store in Salem as Office Manager/Sales and Service for more than 20 years. Ruth was a devoted member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pigeon Cove where she had many friends.

She belonged to the quilting group at the church, crafting quilts for the needy. Ruth and her friends often visited Charlie’s Place in Gloucester after church, where they had their usual table. Ruth loved the Red Sox, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

She also loved going to the beach and taking rides along the shore. Ruth will be missed dearly by her friends and family, and her laugh will live on in our memories. Ruth is survived by her children, Donna Emanuele and her husband Patrick of Cape Coral, FL, John Hart of Rockport, William Hart and his partner Rachel of Marina del Rey, CA, Thomas Hart and his wife Sue of Medway, Kathleen Gaudette and her husband William of Ocala, FL, and Katherine Hart of Peabody.

She is survived by her seven grandchildren, Jeremy Niland and his wife Kourtney Dobbs of Cape Coral, FL, Leah Niland of Danvers, Amanda Hart and her husband Marcus Wassmer of Raleigh, NC, Valerie Hart of Quincy, Kristen Hudson of Chestnut Hill, Alison Hart of Neptune, NJ and Emma Hart of Medway, and two great-grandchildren, Malia Niland of Cape Coral and Arielle Lazarou of Danvers. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Matheson of Gloucester, and her niece and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth’s funeral service on Friday, September 7th, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gloucester, MA.

A visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport, MA.
