K. Yvonne Silva, age 84, died of Parkinson’s Disease on October 15, 2018 in Gloucester. She was born in Gloucester on April 26, 1934 to J. Raymond and Kathleen (Quadros) Silva. Yvonne was the beloved wife of Marshall L. Silva.

She was also the granddaughter of well-known Portuguese skipper, Captain Alvaro Quadros and the niece of former state representative and Mayor of Gloucester, Richard R. Silva. A graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1952, Yvonne attended Mount Saint Mary’s in NH and graduated from Boston University in 1956. Yvonne was a longtime elementary school teacher.

She began her career in Westport, CT and later taught for many years at the Maplewood and Fuller Schools in Gloucester. Yvonne was a member of the Gloucester Teachers’ Association and the College Women’s Club of Cape Ann. She was also a communicant at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church.

Travelling, fine dining, gardening, reading, the theater and symphony and her canine pets were special interests of Yvonne. One of her memorable trips was the two-month car tour of Western Europe with her mother in 1966. Marshall and Yvonne travelled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Europe, with Paris being her favorite city.

Yvonne delighted in growing her own vegetables and creating gourmet meals for all to enjoy. She leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Marshall Silva; her stepchildren Randy Silva of Gloucester and Peter Silva of Orlando, FL; her step-grandchildren Shayla Silva, Erica Lane and William Lane; her sister-in-law Nancy O’Hanley and her husband Richard of Gloucester. In addition she leaves behind many cousins, her godchildren John Dana Perry and Elizabeth Roland, and her many dear friends.

Yvonne was predeceased by her parents, her young brother John and her many aunts and uncles. Special thanks are extended to the nurses and staff of Gloucester Healthcare who provided compassionate and skilled care during her last months. Her visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester, MA on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited.

Her service will be on Thursday, October 18 at 9:30 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Cape Ann Animal Aid at 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930 or to a charity of your choice.
