Jeanne (Haskins) Verge, 85, of Gloucester, wife of Warren E. Verge passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, September 30, 2018 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis and cancer. She was born in Gloucester on November 11, 1932, daughter of the late William J and Eleanor J. (Smith) Haskins. Jeanne was a graduate of Gloucester High School.

She worked for 29 years at Palazola’s Sporting Goods as the office manager, retiring at the age of 73. Prior to that, she worked for Faulk Brothers in Gloucester, as a bookkeeper. She was very active at St. Ann’s Church for many years as a religious education teacher and as an extraordinary minister, also serving as vice president on the parish council for 2 years.

Jeanne will be greatly missed by her family and many friends who touched her life. She is survived her husband of 63 years, Warren E. Verge of Gloucester; her children, Caron Bernier and her husband Albert of Gloucester, Robert Verge and his wife Patricia of Medfield, Donna Warne and her partner Tom Zack of Hampstead, NH, Mary DeSisto and her husband Ron of Gloucester; grandchildren, Leanne Bernier and her partner Aaron Hall, Jamie Bernier and his wife Caroline, Jenna and Austin Verge, Taylor, Matthew and Erica Warne, Brandon and William Verge, Serene and Frank DeSisto; great-grandchild, Jameson Hall; sister, Frances Reynolds; sister-in-law, Marie Buckman; best friend Joan Foster, Diane Corliss and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, William “Billy” Verge; sister, Mary Cunningham; sisters-in-law, Edna Perkins and Shirley Henry.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Wednesday, Oct.
