Robert K. Briand, 83, of Gloucester, husband of Jean N. (Perry) Briand passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Gloucester on June 30, 1935, son of the late Simon J and Olivia L. (Lima) Briand. Bob was a graduate of Gloucester High School Class of 1953.

Bob received a degree in Criminal Justice from North Shore Community College. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 2 years. After the Navy, he returned home to fish on his uncle’s boat the Theresa Boudreau out of Gloucester and later married his wife Jean.

Becoming a dad brought him ashore. He went to work for the City of Gloucester on the Board of Health and later as a police officer from which he retired after 34 years of service. Bob was a lifelong member of the Gloucester Elks and the Gloucester Fraternity Club.

In his retirement he and Jean took many wonderful trips. He found the game of golf and enjoyed setting up golf days for him, his friends and son-in law, John all over the Northeast. He even made a trip to the Masters with his golf buddy Larry.

Bob’s passion was his family and he will be greatly missed by them and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean N. Briand of Gloucester; daughters, Wendy Briand Madden and her husband John of Danvers, Robin Briand of Gloucester; grandchildren, Nicholas Cognato and Taylor Cognato both of Gloucester; nieces, Amy Leigh Baker and Lisa Simon George; nephews, Richard, Thomas, Stephen and Mark Simon; sister-in-law, Judith Akerley; many great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine Briand Silva; his niece, Denise Simon and nephews, Robert Simon and Christopher Akerley.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a day and time to be announced. The burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Elks Scholarship Fund Lodge 892, P.O. Box 86, Gloucester, MA 01930.
