William E. Johnson III, 81, of Salem, MA, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at North Shore Medical Center in Salem. He was born in Clarkson, a town near Omaha on September 20, 1937, son of the late William Edward Johnson II and Jeroma Angela Nykodem. He was a graduate North Field High School in 1955 and later from University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1959.

William worked as an architect from 1963 to 1992, with assignments for the U.S. Army taking him to Okinawa, Japan; Frankfurt, Germany; Vicenza, Italy, and Berlin, Germany over the course of his career, retiring in Gloucester, MA in 1992. He loved books, and in retirement worked part time at Barnes and Noble. He kept a private library of his most favored writers, including Ray Bradbury, E.E. Cummings.

He also played classical guitar and acted for community theaters including the Old Opera House in Charles Town, WV and the Frankfurt Playhouse in Frankfurt, Germany. He leaves behind seven children; William Edward Johnson IV, Cecilia Marie Johnson-Morris, Seth Patrick Johnson, Hannah Elizabeth Johnson, Christopher Sean Johnson, Luke Anthony Johnson, and Benjamin Jude McEnerny Johnson; and seven grandchildren; Aaron, Avery, Gabriel, Madeleine Bell, Dilan, Camilla, Kyla, and Emory. There will be no services at this time.
