Pearl C. (Silva) Dorey, 96, of Beverly, wife of the late Benjamin C. Dorey, passed away at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility in Beverly, MA, on Monday afternoon, October 15, 2018. Pearl was born in Gloucester, MA on July 3, 1922, the daughter of the late John E. and Evelyn J. (Price) Silva. She graduated from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1941.

She had worked at Gorton’s of Gloucester for a few years, but was happiest at home, with her husband Ben and raising their children and tending to their everyday needs. She loved her home and so enjoyed the family get togethers, the yearly cookouts and Christmas parties. In her kitchen she could be found baking pies and goodies, but everyone especially loved “Pearl’s chocolate cake”!

Good Harbor Beach was her “go to” summer spot with her children and friends. She loved traveling and had been to Aruba and cruised to the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and just a couple of years ago, at age 94, cruised to Bermuda with her daughter Marcia. When anyone needed a gift for Pearl, a teacup was perfect.

Pearl had an extensive collection of teacups. She liked to watch Days of Our Lives and crime shows like NCIS. But what sparked her love of life was her family.

Never was she happier than when children, grandchildren and all her family were around. A lovely and delightful lady is truly going to be missed. She is survived by her daughter Marcia A. Dorey and her son Robert C. Dorey and his wife Janet, all of Beverly; granddaughter, Karen E. Tuxbury and her husband Michael, grandson John C. Dorey and his wife Wendy, eight great grandchildren, Brynn, Nora, Maeve, Griffin, Benjamin, Savannah, Abby and Jack; sisters-in-law Madeline (Midge) Silva and Kimie Silva; a special niece Janice Lupo and several other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her six brothers, Carlton, John E. Jr., Richard, Ralph, Milton and Stanley Silva and her three sisters, Helen Flerra, Dorothy Earlywine and Arlene Wilson; a niece Judith Hickory, her godchild, Karen Silva and Richard Silva Jr. Her visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester, MA on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her service will be at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 48 Middle St. Gloucester, followed by her burial in Calvary Cemetery, Eastern Ave, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
